Make sure the same poles of the magnets are facing each other. You should feel them repelling each other when they are placed near to each other.

Glue the paper flower and the magnet onto the log.

Suspend the butterfly on the Y shaped branch. You need to adjust the thread to get the best distance between the flower and the butterfly. The butterfly will continue to fly round the flower once it is suspended on the branch because the magnetic forces of the same poles are repelling each other continuously.
